Almeria (Spain) – In September 2022, the military personnel of the XVII Brazilian Contingent that will be deployed in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), started training to form the staff of the Spanish Brigade that will act in Lebanon, under the aegis of the UN, from November 2022 until May 2023.
The Brazilian contingent is composed of seven soldiers. The combined preparation period consists of two phases, taking place during the months of September and October 2022, in the city of Almería, southern Spain, headquarters of the Spanish Legion Brigade “Rey Alfonso XIII”, an elite unit of the Spanish Army, which will be responsible for the Eastern Sector of UNIFIL’s Area of Operations.
In the first phase, the Brazilian soldiers participate in shooting activities with Spanish weapons, improvised counter-explosive actions, first aid, standard procedures for the exercise of the function, among others, simulating what may be found in the future area of operation.
In the second phase, the Spanish Legion Brigade will undergo evaluations by its Land Force and Ministry of Defense, in which the Brazilian contingent will be incorporated into the various staff functions. After this period, there will be a complementation of the preparation and displacement to the Miguel de Cervantes Base, in the city of Marjayoun, Lebanon.
