From July 22 to 24, the Brazilian Navy (MB), through the 3rd Naval District Command (Com3ºDN), took part in another phase of Operation “Ágata”, the aim of which is to carry out, in cooperation with the Brazilian Air Force and federal, state and municipal agencies, naval patrol and patrol actions, helping to strengthen the prevention, control, inspection and repression of cross-border crimes and environmental crimes in maritime areas.

The raids, which took place in the municipalities of Porto do Mangue (RN) and Icapuí (CE), were carried out in conjunction with the Federal Police, the Federal Revenue Service, the Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) and the State Security Forces, under the Operational Command of Com3ºDN.

In the Potiguar city of Porto do Mangue, patrols, inspections and naval inspections were carried out in compliance with the Waterway Traffic Safety Law (LESTA), which is one of MB’s subsidiary activities.

In the region of Icapuí, a municipality in the state of Ceará, a diving compressor used for illegal lobster fishing was seized and three vessels were fined by Ibama for illegal fishing. During naval inspection activities, another three vessels were notified of infringements of LESTA.

Operation “Ágata”

Established by the Federal Government, the Integrated Border Protection Program (PPIF) seeks to strengthen the prevention, control, inspection and repression of cross-border crimes. In this context, Operation “Ágata” has also established itself as an important tool for protecting the last frontier at sea, guaranteeing sovereignty in Brazilian Jurisdictional Waters, promoting the Economy of the Sea, developing a maritime mentality in the field of Ocean Culture and conserving the environment of the Blue Amazon.
