Operation Taquari 2
Canoas (RS) – In July, soldiers from the 1st Mechanized Combat Engineering Company, Companhia Coronel José Fernandes de Souza Doca, based in São Borja (RS), provided engineering support in the municipality of Canoas, clearing damaged access roads and removing debris.
The military personnel’s actions are part of Operation Taquari 2, whose aim is to provide humanitarian assistance and support to Civil Defense in cities in the state of Rio Grande do Sul affected by flooding.
In May, the 14th Combat Engineering Company, based in Tubarão (SC), supported by various military organizations that are part of Operation Taquari 2, cleaned up several streets affected by the mud in the city of Canoas, so that those affected by the flood could return to their homes.

The Brazilian Army has been working since April 30 to support the people of Rio Grande do Sul who are suffering from the floods in the state. Among the main actions are rescuing and transporting displaced people and riverside dwellers, setting up and operating Field Hospitals, distributing hundreds of tons of meals, groceries, medicines and thousands of liters of drinking water.
