Curitiba (PR) – The Brazilian Army has acquired 20 more specialized armored vehicles unprecedented in the country. Received at the Paranaguá Container Terminal (TCP), the MaxxPro Recovery Vehicles have 6×6 traction and will be used for rescue operations of Guarani armored vehicles on the battlefield. The model can withstand 5.56 mm and 7.62 mm caliber weapons fire, as well as artillery shrapnel, mines and explosives, and has the capacity to tow up to 42 tons.
Manufactured by US company Navistar Defense, the vehicles were acquired through the Armored Forces Program, which is part of the Ground Force Strategic Portfolio. The vehicle purchase process began in 2018 and went through several stages, according to the Brazilian Army’s operational requirements.
After documentary clearance, the fleet will be transported to Curitiba and will be in charge of the Logistics Section of the 5th Army Division Command. The 27th Logistics Battalion and the 5th Logistics Battalion will be the military units that will drive the twenty armoured vehicles to the Regional Maintenance Park, which will be the provisional destination of the armoured vehicles until their distribution to different organizations of the Brazilian Army.
Strategic Armored Forces Program
The Armoured Forces Program is aimed at obtaining wheeled and tracked armoured vehicles and their component subsystems, such as weapons and communications systems. The objective is to modernize the Army’s armoured and mechanized units.
The Programme fosters research, development and innovation in the country for various solutions in defence and security products, such as the various versions of the wheeled armoured vehicle family and the modernization of wheeled and tracked vehicles, as well as technological remotely controlled weapons systems and command and control systems (C2).
