Conference of Defense Ministers of the Americas ended on Friday (29) in Brasilia; ABIMDE articulated the promotion of the Defense and Security Industrial Base during the event
The XV Conference of Ministers of Defense of the Americas (XV CMDA), which brought together representatives from 21 countries in Brasilia (DF), officially ended last Friday (29). The event started on the 25th and counted with the participation of ABIMDE (Brazilian Association of Defense and Security Industries) and 21 national companies of the BIDS (Defense and Security Industrial Base).
The Conference of Ministers of State of the Americas is the largest meeting of the Western Hemisphere related to the theme of Defense and Security. Every two years, the host country is alternated among the 34 nations that compose the forum. Brazil is the host country for the 2021-2022 biennium; Argentina will host the next edition (2023-2024).
In the assessment of Brazil’s Minister of Defense, Paulo Sérgio Nogueira de Oliveira, the XV CMDA fulfilled its role in strengthening the ties between CMDA members. “The commitment of our countries to democracy and freedom is a parameter that should guide our actions. This conference defined the activities to be conducted in the next edition. We already have goals. Brazil will host the cyber defense exercise of the CMDA member states in 2023,” said the minister on Thursday (28). The minister also emphasized the importance of the 7th Brazil IDB Show for the sector and invited the delegations to participate in the event, which takes place this year in Brasilia.
In a note, the Ministry of Defense also said that the meeting was an opportunity to “sign deals and business to promote and develop the national Defense Industrial Base, as well as a stage for current discussions on Defense and Security.
Between Tuesday (26th) and Thursday (28th), the international delegations that participated in the Conference had the opportunity to get to know defense and security technologies and products developed in Brazil. Seprod (Secretariat of Defense Products) of the Ministry of Defense, with the support of ABIMDE, coordinated a ‘mini BID Show’ in the lobby near the auditorium where the Conference was taking place.
“Our objective was to present a small sample of the technological capability and the diversity of solutions and products developed and manufactured in Brazil. Our country produces state-of-the-art technology for several segments of Defense and Security. We have the potential to establish many partnerships with sister countries and companies in the Americas”, said Dr. Roberto Gallo, President of ABIMDE’s Board of Directors, adding that “the delegations that visited the space were surprised with our capabilities”.
Coordinated by ABIMDE, which represents a base of more than 200 associates, the Show had the presence of representatives of the following companies: Akaer, Ares, Atech, Avionics, Berkana, CBC, Condor, CSD, Dupont, Embraer, Emgepron, Gespi, Imbel, Iveco, Kryptus, Leonardo do Brasil, Mac Jee, MTX, Ocellott, Siatt and Taurus.
Secretary Marcos Degaut, from Seprod, expressed gratitude for the support and stressed the importance of promoting national companies and strengthening the Defense and Security Industrial Base.
“I want to thank, on behalf of Seprod, the Ministry of Defense, for the receptiveness to our idea of having a mini defense products exhibition during the Conference of Defense Ministers of the Americas. It was a success. All of you collaborated in the most helpful and agile way so that this event could be held. So, I would like to reinforce this gratitude, and we will now work so that the next activities, including our IDB Brazil, will be better and bigger. And that they manage to put our Defense Industry more and more in evidence”, said Degaut.
Brazil IDB Showcase
The 7th IDB Brazil Trade Show, organized by ABIMDE in partnership with ApexBrasil, will take place between December 6th and 8th of this year, in Brasilia (DF). The most important national event of the defense and security segments, the Brazil IDB Show brings together the main Brazilian companies and institutions of these markets, promoting a business agenda, networking and the dissemination of knowledge and technological innovations.
During the three days of the event, the main defense and security players in Brazil will exhibit products, technologies and solutions to a qualified audience, which includes representatives of the Armed Forces and Public Security, the executive and legislative branches, military and foreign diplomatic delegations and specialized professionals.
