The Secretariat of Defense Products (SEPROD) was present at the 10th Meeting of the Defense Industry Committee of Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil-RS), which took place in the city of Guaíba, on November 8th. The event was organized by the Federation of Industries of the State of Rio Grande do Sul (FIERGS) and by the National System of Industrial Learning (SENAI).
The objective was to promote actions by the Ministry of Defense (MD) regarding the Defense Industrial Base (BID). During the meeting, the activities of the Brazilian Association of Defense and Security Materials Industries (ABIMDE) and the creation of the Aero Technological Center, of Aeromot Aeronaves e Motores, were highlighted.
The Coordinator of the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation, of the Ministry, Engineer Colonel Rafael Aquino dos Santos, addressed the topic “Actions of the Ministry of Defense to strengthen the BID and the Protocol of Mutual Intentions with SENAI/FIERGS”.
The official explained the importance of factors such as the triple helix ꟷ industry, university and government ꟷ in fostering innovation projects in the IDB. “We cannot have sovereignty without strengthening our defense products and without technological development capabilities. We must have a self-sustaining defense industry,” he pointed out.
Other relevant topics under discussion were “The role of ABIMDE in the contemporary scenario” and “The New Aero Technology Center and Diamond aircraft”. Representatives of FIERGS companies took the opportunity to clarify doubts with the speakers, present suggestions to increase the promotion of industries, and were available to seek solutions to ensure the permanence of qualified professionals in the state and in the country.
