Três Corações (MG) – On November 5, around 1,500 military personnel occupied the Polo Field of the Weapons Sergeants School (ESA) for the Operational Readiness of the 2023 School Maneuver, coordinated by the Directorate of Military Technical Education (DETMil).

Operational Readiness is the stage of preparation in which a military ground organization is ready to be deployed on a combat mission, with all its equipment, weapons, vehicles, ammunition, supplies and other bundles of material. The readiness of the soldiers involves a set of measures relating to instruction, using simulation, interviews with the international press, briefings and issuing orders to the units, as well as combat support logistics.

During Operation Gavião Carcará (Sparrowhawk), in a fictitious context, the 55th Mechanized Infantry Brigade (55th Bda Inf Mec), Max Wolf Brigade, has the mission, through Simulated Military Problems (SMP), to march into combat to establish contact with the enemy, attack to conquer and hold the repeater height region, assisting the 15th Army Division, Carcará Division, in retaking Pontal do CIGMAL.

To give you an idea of the exercise, 902 soldiers from the ESA (507 of them students); 460 soldiers (333 of them students) from the Logistics Sergeants School; 70 soldiers (30 of them students) from the Army Aviation Instruction Center; three captains from the Officer Training School; 46 cadets from the Agulhas Negras Military Academy; and 21 lieutenants from the Army Complementary Training School.

There is also the use of 120 vehicles, 14 armoured vehicles and 3 rotary-wing aircraft; and the support of personnel and material from 17 military organizations of the Brazilian Army.

In his remarks to the troops, the ESA Commander, Brigadier General Reinaldo Salgado Beato, stressed that “the School Maneuver is a unique opportunity for the Army Training Schools to operate in an integrated manner, with all combat functions, in an operation that meets our main constitutional mission, which is to prepare ourselves for the defense of the Homeland”.
