CLBI Hosts General Meeting of the Launch Interfaces GroupCLBI Hosts General Meeting of the Launch Interfaces Group

Meeting took place from 05/29 to 06/02, at the Barreira do Inferno Launch Center (CLBI)

The Inferno Barrier Launching Center (CLBI) received, from May 29th to June 2nd, civil and military authorities for the first General Meeting of the Launch Interfaces Group (GIL), event promoted by the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology (DCTA). The activity provided an opportunity to discuss technical and operational issues related to the space area, especially those related to space launch operations conducted by DCTA.

In this first edition of 2023, representatives of DCTA’s main Organizational Interfaces involved in launch operations participated, such as: the Institute of Aeronautics and Space (IAE); the Institute of Industrial Promotion and Coordination (IFI); the Institute of Advanced Studies (IEAv); the Commission for the Coordination and Deployment of Space Systems (CCISE); the Alcantara Launch Center (CLA); and the CLBI itself, in addition to representatives of the Brazilian Space Agency (AEB) and the Aeronautics Staff (EMAER).

In all, the meeting had about 40 participants. The Group’s purpose was to address, in a systematic and permanent way, issues related to the launching interfaces, serving as a coordination tool for the macro-planning of operations preparation and execution, and for the improvement of the launching means, under DCTA’s responsibility.

According to the Chief of DCTA’s Technical Subdepartment and GIL’s President, Brigadier Engineer Luciano Valentim Rechiuti, the Group works as a management tool that allows the broadening of situational awareness, the continuous improvement of means and the effective preparation for launching and tracking operations of space vehicles, considering the prerogatives of the National Program of Space Activities (PNAE), the Strategic Program of Space Systems (PESE) and the development of DCTA’s projects of interest in the space field.

The event’s General Coordinator, Air Force Colonel Eduardo Viegas Dalle Lucca, highlighted that the meeting’s agenda included current and diverse topics, highlighting the update on: the PESE, the implementation of the Alcântara Space Center (CEA), the Calls and Notices with Space Launches from CEA and AEB, the General Space Law and the Brazilian Space Regulation, budget resources, final results and lessons learned obtained in the Santa Branca and Astrolabio Operations, the situation of the strategic projects of the space area, the operational situation of the Centers, the Calendar of Space Launch Operations in the period from 2023 to 2027, among others. Technical visits to the CLBI facilities were also scheduled.

Concurrently with the GIL meeting, an Interface Follow-up Meeting (RAI) was held to verify the possibility of resuming the launching of VS-30 and VSB-30 vehicles from the CLBI. The CLBI Director, Air Force Colonel Erivando Pereira Souza, stressed the importance of this meeting and the opportunity of the CLBI to contribute to the diversification of the suborbital launch sites. This way, its state of readiness for launching devices is certified and recognized by the steakholders of the Brazilian Space Program: “With this, the Brazilian government will be able to count on the fullness of its Centers, in order to provide one more alternative for suborbital launches and consequently more options for national and international agreements of interest to the country,” he concluded.
