The Minister of Defense visited, on Thursday (11), the Regional Center of the Management and Operational Center of the Amazon Protection System (Censipam) in Belém (PA). The goal was to learn about the work developed by the agency in the areas of image analysis, monitoring of extreme events and illegal actions, meteorology and hydrology, as well as support to public agencies.
During the visit, the Minister watched a firefighting team from the state of Pará being activated via the Fire Panel – a software launched by Censipam to help choose the best strategies to fight forest fires.
The action is part of a task force of the Operation Biome Guardians, held between August 8 and 12. On the occasion, the new features of the tool were also presented, such as the indicator panel and the increased frequency of fire event data from the integration of polar and geostationary satellite data.
Another product presented to the Chief of Staff was the Integrated System of Hydrometeorological Monitoring and Alert (SIPAMHidro). The platform assists in monitoring the hydro-meteorological conditions of the region and possible disaster situations. Among the project’s operational modules are information such as river levels and rainfall estimates. The flood and inundation module is expected to reach 63 municipalities in the Legal Amazon by 2023.
The Minister also got to know the SAR Amazon Project and the Work Plan with the Brazilian Navy to analyze satellite images from the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) to monitor the land and sea surface. Both projects receive contributions from the University of Brasília (UnB) for the application of artificial intelligence techniques, identifying features of interest to Censipam.
