Marechal Thaumaturgo (AC) – The Juruá Border Command / 61st Jungle Infantry Battalion (C Fron Juruá / 61st BIS) inaugurated, on October 11, its First Special Border Platoon (1º PEF), based in the city of Marechal Thaumaturgo.

The activation of the 61st BIS’s 1st PEF occurs after more than twenty years of operation as a Special Border Detachment (DEF), in an area near the airport, surrounded by the Amônia and Juruá Rivers. Over the years, several types of reforms and adaptations have been made, aiming to meet the structural and logistical demands that a border platoon requires.

The Special Border Platoon exercises an important mission in safeguarding our National Sovereignty, collaborating in the preservation of territorial integrity and in the combat against trans-border illicit activities.

The inauguration event was attended by the Military Commander of the Amazon, Army General Achilles Furlan Neto, accompanied by Brigadier General Flávio Moreira Mathias, Commander of the 17th Jungle Infantry Brigade and by the Commander of the Juruá Frontier Brigade / 61st BIS, Colonel Wildson Pereira Santos, and other members of the official delegation.
