Ottawa, Canada – On May 19 and 20, the Defense, Naval, Army and Aeronautical Attaché in Canada, Colonel Marcio Guedes Taveira, and the Liaison Officer at the Canadian Army Doctrine and Training Center, Colonel Leonardo Celso de Almeida Alves, accompanied Exercise Maple Resolve 2023, the largest and most complex Canadian Army training exercise.

This year, more than 2,500 military personnel from the 5th Mechanized Brigade, based in Valcartier, Quebec, and its manoeuvre, support, and logistics units participated in the exercise, the last phase for their certification for employment in missions abroad, which was accompanied by the Commander of the Canadian Army, Lieutenant-General Jocelyn Paul, and by the Commander of the Canadian Army Doctrine and Training Center, Major-General Roch Pelletier.

In a process very similar to the one used by the Land Operations Command (COTER) to certify the troops that make up the Land Force Readiness Force (FORPRON), through the East and South Training Centres, this Canadian Brigade had already gone through the certification at Grand Unit level through Constructive Simulation, known as War Game, and the tactical preparation of its fractions through Virtual Simulation.

Crowning the certification process, Maple Resolve is a campaign exercise employing Live Simulation, supported by Tactical Engagement Simulation Devices (DSET) on all armaments and vehicles and on the Observer and Training Controller (OCA) teams, in addition to the actual firing of the fractions in a tactical context, which is held at the Canadian Army Manoeuvre Centre in Wainwright, Alberta.
