Brasília (DF) – The Commander of the Brazilian Army, General Tomás Miguel Miné Ribeiro Paiva, received last Wednesday, 24th, at the Army Headquarters, the Commander of the Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) of the United States of America, General Laura Richardson. Both met in the Army High Command Meeting Room with the presence of the Army Chief of Staff, General Soares, and the Chief of Science and Technology, General Furlan, as well as members of the general’s entourage.

Throughout the week, the American general had an agenda in Brasilia that included participation in a panel, at the Military School of Brasilia, about the Women, Peace and Security program, of the United Nations; and a visit to the Brazilian Army’s Cyber Defense Command (ComDCiber), located at Fort Marechal Rondon.

General Laura Richardson

A native of Northglenn, Colorado, General Laura J. Richardson is a U.S. Army aviator and the first woman in the history of the U.S. Army to assume the post of Commander of the Southern Command, a position she has held since October 2021.

With a master’s degree in National Resource Strategy from the Dwight D. Eisenhower School of National Security and Resource Strategy at the National Defense University, General Richardson previously served as Commanding General of the U.S. Army North (Fifth Army) at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and has also served as Deputy Commanding General of the U.S. Army Forces Command at Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Chief of Army Legislative Liaison to the U.S. Congress in Washington D. C. and Deputy Chief of Staff for Communications at International Security Assistance Force Headquarters in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Kabul, Afghanistan.
