The Barreira do Inferno Launch Center (CLBI), a military organization under the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology (DCTA), hosted the 1st Brazilian Satellite Olympics (OBSAT MCTI) in the regional (northeast) and national stages. The activities took place between 04 and 08/12.

The event is a nationwide scientific Olympiad conceived by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) and organized by the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar), the National Institute for Space Research (INPE/MCTI), the Brazilian Amateur Radio Emission League (LABRE), the São Carlos School of Engineering (EESC) and the University of São Paulo (USP).

The aim of the event is to promote theoretical and practical experience in small satellite projects, spreading aerospace culture to students and teachers from high school, technical and university institutions.

CLBI provided all the technical and operational support needed to guarantee the safety and effectiveness of the launch of the PESL (Pion Educational Satellite Launcher) rocket and the weather balloon, in accordance with the satellite projects approved by the OBSAT Evaluation Commission.

In this operational scenario, all the required coordination and execution protocols were strictly adhered to, guaranteeing the readiness and operational safety of the events.

The Augusto Severo Space Technology Vocational Center (CVT-ESPACIAL), located at CLBI, also hosted the presentation and evaluation of the projects submitted in the corresponding phases of the Olympiad.

CLBI’s Director, Colonel Erivando Pereira Souza, ratified the purpose that guides the Center’s institutional mission of carrying out and supporting scientific and technological activities in the field of Aerospace Power. “CLBI-DCTA has been stimulating knowledge and interest in the work carried out by our professionals, through visits from educational institutions at all levels, in order to boost the imagination of children, young people and even adults from all regions of the country. In addition, we have had the opportunity to host events such as OBSAT, so that we can have practical launches and tests of science, technology and space devices, such as rockets and satellites,” said the Senior Officer.

The Director also stressed that the triad “prepare, launch and track” is the Center’s DNA and is aligned with the demands of the Brazilian Space Program, ranging from the student and academic world to large-scale events. “The motivation and vibrancy of these young people and their mentors renew our energy and give us hope for the future,” he added.
