Vila Bittencourt (AM) – The 3rd Special Border Platoon, located in Vila Bitencourt (AM), was the scene of a successful action in the surveillance of the border between Brazil and Colombia. In the early morning of March 19, four Colombian citizens were arrested with 2,715 kg of skunk marijuana, 3.8 kg of cocaine and 11 kg of base paste, as well as weapons and ammunition. Besides the materials, considered to be of great value, three boats were seized and quickly sent to the Federal Police, thanks to the integration between the Brazilian Army and the Federal Police Department. The seizures resulted from a series of operations conducted in the Japurá River Valley region.

The modernity and technological capacity used by the troops of the Military Command of the Amazon ensured the operational efficiency and the readiness of the teams to detect the suspicious vessel and act quickly. This technological capacity, allied to the capillarity of the 23 PEFs strategically located along the border, allows the Brazilian Army the necessary dissuasion and projection of power to cooperate in the combat of drug trafficking and other illicit activities in the region.

The permanent presence of the Army in the region, by means of the 3rd Special Border Platoon, from the Japurá Border Command/ 17th Jungle Infantry Battalion, allows fast and efficient action in the control of trans-border crimes, as happened in this operation in Vila Bittencourt. The seizure is an example of the effectiveness of the surveillance actions in the border strip of the Brazilian Army.
