Rio de Janeiro (RJ) – Members of the Paratrooper Infantry Brigade carried out Operation Condor III – Fires, an artillery training exercise using a Fire Support Simulator. The soldiers planned and coordinated fires during the operation, essential activities for integrating artillery with other maneuver elements in military operations. The exercise took place at the Agulhas Negras Military Academy on October 24 and 25.

The paratrooper artillery’s mission is to provide fire support in air-land operations by conquering and maintaining air bridgeheads. For this reason, the 8th Parachute Field Artillery Group stands out for its mobility and versatility. Light caliber howitzers are used, which facilitates transport by aircraft and launching by parachute.

In addition to the Artillery troops, Operation Condor III – Fires mobilized different military organizations of the Paratrooper Brigade, using the high technology of the Fire Support Simulator to increase the level of realism for the soldiers who perform different roles in air-to-ground missions. The simulation mobilized fire support coordination centers at all levels. The synergy between the artillery and maneuver elements and the different paratrooper specialties was essential to the success of the operation and enriched the doctrinal discussions of air-land operations.
