The Philippine Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) has approved a large batch of Taurus TS9 pistols, after five days of severe tests carried out by the corporation’s technical staff and high command at the Brazilian multinational’s headquarters in São Leopoldo, Rio Grande do Sul.

The delegation included General Luisito Caravan Munoz (Chief Superintendent of Prison Services), General Baby Noel Pimentel Montalvo, Captain Arturo Jr Repuela Espos, and the Taurus representative in the Philippines.

Between August 28 and September 1, 2023, samples were subjected to the Philippine prison police’s rigorous testing protocol, considered one of the strictest in the world, which includes dimensional assessment, accuracy, interchangeability, sand, mud, water immersion, drop, pressure ammunition, functionality, disassembly and assembly, metallographic tests, as well as a 20,000-shot endurance test.

The samples were fully approved, meeting all the requirements, and confirmed the quality of the Taurus TS9 pistol, an extremely resistant and reliable weapon, specially developed for the police and military market.

This is the first batch to be supplied to the Philippine Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP). A contract for 1,438 pistols, in which Taurus was declared the winner over several other international competitors.

Taurus’ international presence is growing every year and, in line with the company’s strategy, it is conquering various markets. The company exports its products to more than 100 countries, in addition to the USA, which has the world’s largest and most competitive arms market, in which Taurus is the first most imported brand.

The Brazilian manufacturer has been successful and expanding the share of its products in the rigorous and promising market of the Philippines. In December 2022, the Philippines National Police (PNP) approved, through rigorous acceptance tests, another two large batches of TS9 Striker pistols, a total of 9,554 pistols. In 2021, more than 13,000 Taurus T4 5.56×45 rifles were supplied to the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Thus, between 2019 and 2023, Taurus has already delivered approximately 45,000 units of the TS9 Striker pistol and T4 rifle to the Philippine security forces, in addition to the relevant position the company occupies within the civilian market of that same country. Added to this are other sales and confirmed tenders around the world, which demonstrates the stability, reliability and quality of its products on the world stage.

“Taurus is a Brazilian multinational company that is very competitive in the world, a strong international player in the defense and public security market, and these contracts are proof of that,” says Taurus’ Global CEO, Salesio Nuhs.

In August 2023, the company was honored twice at the 51st RS Export Award, promoted by the Association of Marketing and Sales Managers of Brazil (ADVB/RS). The award is the largest in the export segment in the southern region of the country and highlights brands that are benchmarks in their sectors, fostering the growth of Rio Grande do Sul as a strong state in the export of products and raw materials to the world. As well as winning in the Sectoral Highlight – Industry category, Taurus received the special Diamond distinction, which honours organizations that have won the award in ten editions over the years.
