The 36th edition of Operation Fraterno, involving the Brazilian Navy and the Argentine Navy, has ended on a positive note. Between August 8 and 31, military exercises were held between the two naval forces, visits to strategic logistical ports, as well as public visits to MB frigates. The exchange of knowledge and experience strengthened the training of the military personnel involved, contributing to the more effective promotion of maritime security in the region and stability on the continent.

Brazilian and Argentine military personnel carried out various operational exercises on the high seas, such as: navigation exercises in low visibility; transit under air and surface threat; submarine operations; “Leap Frog”, where the maneuver of approaching and maintaining the relative position of ships is trained; “Light-line”, where the maintenance of the distance between two ships is exercised, by means of a distance cable; air operations, surface firing, anti-aircraft firing on illuminating grenade, tactical maneuvers, among other training, in a scenario that came close to a real situation of employment of the Naval Power. All the activities were aimed at improving operational skills and interoperability between the two navies.

In addition to the military exercises, this 36th edition of Operation “Fraterno” included visits to strategic logistics ports, such as the Port of Rio Grande (RS), Mar del Plata (Argentina) and Itajaí (SC). In the national ports, the Brazilian frigates were open to the public, with approximately 2,600 visitors interested in getting to know a warship more closely, as well as the military’s on-board routine. The public had the unique opportunity to be on board the ships and learn about the technologies used, as well as the MB’s missions and responsibilities.

The Brazilian Task Group (GT) for Operation “Fraterno” was commanded by Rear Admiral Nelson de Oliveira Leite, Commander of the 1st Fleet Division, and included 570 military personnel.
