The Navy celebrated its efforts to train personnel to work in Peace Operations on August 28, the date on which the Naval Peace Operations Center (COpPazNav) celebrated its 15th anniversary. Set up at the Almirante Sylvio de Camargo Training Centre (CIASC), COpPazNav is recognized for its competent execution of the task of preparing MB military personnel, other Armed Forces, Auxiliary Forces, civilians from various bodies and institutions and also military personnel from friendly nations to act in peace and humanitarian operations.

As an organization with national and international reach, the Centre runs various courses and internships, including the International United Nations Maritime Task Force Course, the International Riverine Peace Operations Course and the International Intelligence Course for Officers, all formally certified by the UN and conducted in English, as well as the renowned International Peace Operations Course for Women.

“On this honorable and festive date, I feel it my duty to pay special tribute to all the military personnel who once made up the COpPazNav crew, for their commitment to providing the best preparation for the peacekeepers of Brazil and friendly nations. The legacy left by my predecessors is an eternal source of motivation and pride for me. My sincere thanks to them. We will continue to write COpPazNav’s success story with the same commitment and attentive to all the developments in armed conflicts today,” said the head of COpPazNav, Frigate Captain Taets.

The Commander of CIASC, Rear Admiral (Marines) Paulo Roberto, believes that “COpPazNav has played a consistent role in projecting Brazil’s capacity to prepare men and women to act in peace operations anywhere in the world. Among the many concrete cases of this preparation, I am proud to mention Sea and War Captain (Dental Surgeon) Carla Araújo, who took part in the UN Peace Mission in the Central African Republic, a performance that earned her the “UN Military Gender Equality Defender 2019″ award. Today she is working at UN headquarters in New York.”
