Operation “Estreitos”, carried out by the Brazilian Navy (MB), in the area between the Amazon River and the Pará River, in the northern region, ended this Friday (28). The Aviso-Auxiliar “Breves”, together with a Fast-Action Boat, carried out preventive and repressive actions against violations of the Waterway Traffic Safety Regulations, cross-border crimes, and environmental crimes.

During the operation, which began on the 19th of this month, the patrol actions resulted in 53 vessels being boarded, of which 20 were notified and 10 were seized. The total seizure of 584 cubic meters of illegal wood and a convoy that was illegally transporting more than 2,200m³ of wood, representing a risk to the safety of navigation, is noteworthy. The operation was supported by a team of inspectors from the Pará State Secretariat for the Environment and Sustainability, who measured the seized cargo.

In addition to the dissuasive effect obtained with the presence of the MB means, during the operation about 1 million reais in seized cargo was collected and administrative and criminal penalties were applied to those involved.

With frequent and relevant participation in various naval inspections and naval patrols, its collaboration with vaccination and scalping accident prevention campaigns stands out.
