More than 1,400 Brazilian army personnel are working on certification of the Motorized Brigade as a Readiness ForceMore than 1,400 Brazilian army personnel are working on certification of the Motorized Brigade as a Readiness Force

The actions of the Suez Task Force were verified by members of the Eastern Training Center, using tactical engagement simulation devices, making it possible to add greater realism to the actions carried out by the Trained Force, ensuring a more reliable assessment.

Members of the Eastern Training Centre, the 1st Combat Engineering Battalion and the eleven military organizations subordinate to the 9th Bda Inf Mtz took part in the exercise. Around 120 operational vehicles were used, including the Guarani Armored Personnel Carriers (VBTP Guarani), Lince Light Multitask Armored Wheeled Vehicles (VBMT-LR Lince) and Cascavel Armored Reconnaissance Vehicles (VBR Cascavel).

The Operations Section Chief and Exercise Coordinator, Major Tomazini, explained that the aim is to contribute to the mission of an army division in isolating and conquering a location. “The 9th Bda Inf Mtz has been given the mission of conquering the heights that dominate the town of Resende from the north, for subsequent investment in the town by another large unit of the 1st Army Division. To this end, the Brigade employs the Suez Task Force with its four maneuver subunits. The exercise is carried out in a context of dual action, in which the Opposing Force carries out its planning and, in accordance with the guidelines of the Exercise Directorate, has freedom of action to act. These characteristics allow us to achieve a greater degree of realism, bringing the exercise closer to real combat,” said Major Tomazini.

The Commander of the Suez Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Marcus Vinícius do Nascimento Monteiro, stressed that the certification was the culmination of the Readiness Force’s preparation, which over the course of four months carried out four long-term exercises in the field, covering the preparation of its fractions and subunits, integrating the combat functions of the Task Force’s various types of troops. “Operation Encore was marked by meticulous planning, which was tested in constructive and virtual simulations, and which proved efficient on the ground, thanks to the Task Force’s ability and motivation in its mission to become the 9th Army’s Readiness Force.”

The 9th Bda Inf Mtz is one of two brigades that act as a Readiness Force within the scope of the Eastern Military Command. For the Commander of the 9th Bda Inf Mtz, Brigadier General Ricardo Luiz da Cunha Rabelo, the certification of the Suez Task Force as a Readiness Force in a tactical context of external defense is fundamental for the Brigade. “I have repeated that the members of our Brigade are motivated soldiers who are committed to their training and to fulfilling their missions. It is a source of great pride for the Commander of the 9th Army to see that the troops used the most modern means at our disposal in this operation, using the technical knowledge required and the appropriate tactical application in all phases of the maneuver. We can say that the Suez Task Force, as well as the combat support and logistical support units, are fully capable of fulfilling the missions that the Eastern Military Command or the 1st Army Division deem necessary.”
