Manaus (AM) – A female military member, Staff Sergeant Góis took command of the River Logistics Module this year, and became the first female river navigator in the Brazilian Army. It is an annual activity of the Amazon Military Command’s Ship Center (CECMA) to send a logistics module with military-use materials by river from Manaus, Amazonas, to Porto Velho, Rondônia.

The departure of the logistics module of the General Transportation Plan (PGT) took place at the Port of CECMA, on Thursday morning (13). About 90 tons of materials are in 18 containers belonging to the Brazilian Army and the Brazilian Navy. Sergeant Góis, who graduated from the river navigation course in 2022 at the CECMA Transport Instruction Center, left for the mission, being responsible for a crew of about 20 military personnel. Complex logistics carried out efficiently is key to optimizing resources and ensuring successful operations.

The Military Commander of the Amazon, General Costa Neves was present at the military ceremony and highlighted the participation of Sergeant Góis in the command of the mission within the scope of the Army’s General Transport Plan, emphasizing that her command is due to the competence, training and readiness of the military. This statement reflects a perspective of valuing meritocracy and professionalism, emphasizing that the fundamental testimony for assuming a command is technical and operational capacity, regardless of gender.

The mission takes place simultaneously by road and river modes, with the aim of optimizing operational efficiency. At the same time that the logistics module departs from the port of CECMA, the road convoy leaves the Central Transportation Establishment (ECT), located in Rio de Janeiro. The Logistics Operation by river follows the route of a stretch equivalent to 3000 kilometers along the Madeira River, counting round trip, in an estimated period of 30 days in a pusher vessel and two open rafts.
