A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) and the company Stella Tecnologia Indústria e Comércio Aeroespacial LTDA, with the aim of developing conceptual studies of key technologies, systems and unmanned aircraft. The act was carried out by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Brigadier Lieutenant Marcelo Kanitz Damasceno and the company’s Executive Vice President and CEO, Gilberto André Buffara Junior, on Thursday (21/09), in Brasília (DF).

The partnership represents another step towards carrying out Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (IVR), Search and Rescue (SAR), air-to-ground weapons and Aerospace Communication Post (P-COM-AEPC) missions. With the memorandum, both parties undertake to define, in a coordinated manner, the concepts related to unmanned aerial systems and vehicles, known by the acronym UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems/Vehicles), also encompassing enabling systems and interfaces between systems, as well as involving the Defense Industrial Base (BID) and national Scientific, Technological and Innovation Institutions (ICT) in research cooperation on the subjects in question.

The Commander of the Air Force emphasized that the action and use of UAS equipment – which serves both airspace control and air defense – is in line with Capabilities-Based Planning (CBP). “That we can cooperate with industry and maintain our sovereignty. It would be great if we could take off with a drone, for example, with all national items, all produced here,” said the General Officer.
