The 11th Plenary Meeting of the Brazilian Space Program Development Committee (CDPEB) was held on Tuesday (21) at the Planalto Palace in Brasília (DF). The meeting was attended by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Brigadier Marcelo Kanitz Damasceno.

According to the Decree on the CDPEB, the Office of Institutional Security of the Presidency of the Republic (GSI-PR) is responsible for coordinating the Committee’s activities, as an advisory body to the President of the Republic.

The activities of the Plenary Meeting were chaired by the Minister of State in charge of the GSI, with the participation of the Minister of State for Science, Technology and Innovation, the Commander of the Air Force, Executive Secretaries and representatives of the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services, Ministry of Planning and Budget, Ministry of Communications, the Federal Attorney General’s Office, the Director of the National Institute for Space Research and the President of the Brazilian Space Agency, as well as other guests.

As a result of the work carried out within the CDPEB, suggestions were received which will serve as a basis for high-level discussions on issues such as the production of Liquid Polybutadiene (PBLH) in Brazil and the balancing of the Union’s budget to meet the demands for space services; in addition to the creation of two new Technical Groups: one with the aim of proposing initiatives for the infrastructure needed to develop the activities of the Alcântara Space Center, and another that will develop studies on establishing governance for the Defense and Communications Satellite System (SSDC).

In addition, information was presented on the progress of Bill 1006/2022 – the Space Activities Bill – an important legal framework for the national space sector. Also highlighted was the proposal for a Bill dealing with the creation of the public company ALADA, which will bring benefits to social, economic and scientific development in Brazil, contributing to national security and the generation of new revenue, income and taxes, as well as promoting the development of the national aerospace industry.

With each CDPEB meeting, it is clear that, through the synergistic action of the members of this instrument that catalyzes actions and initiatives aimed at strengthening the Brazilian space sector, alternatives are found for the new scenarios that arise, helping to consolidate Brazil as a relevant player on a global scale.
