The Air Staff (EMAER), through its Seventh Air Staff, promoted, between April 24 and May 5, the first Extension Course in Systems and Requirements Engineering (CEESR).

The course counted with the collaboration of PhD Professors from the Instituto Tecnológico da Aeronáutica (ITA), and had the purpose of raising and disseminating knowledge about systems and requirements in the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), a relevant aspect for the management of strategic projects and also for the management of the entire life cycle of FAB systems.

The CEESR was attended by 34 military and civilian stakeholders involved directly with aerospace projects from the following organizations: EMAER, Preparedness Command (COMPREP), Aerospace Command (COMAE), Airspace Control Department (DECEA), Directorate of Aeronautics and Warfare Material (DIRMAB), Combat Aircraft Program Coordinating Commission (COPAC), Institute of Advanced Studies (IEAv), Institute for Industrial Promotion and Coordination (IFI), Aeronautical Technological Institute (ITA) and Alcantara Launch Center (CLA).

The first week was dedicated to Systems Engineering, with Dr. Christopher Shneider Cerqueira presenting the origins of the discipline with the “space race”, going through the systems life cycle, the concept of operation, the architecture and problem structuring, until reaching the Aeronautics Command Directive (COMAER), about the Life Cycle of Systems and Materials (DCA 400-6).

During the second week, Dr. Johnny Cardoso Marques covered the aspects related to Requirements Engineering, and the students were introduced to the theory that involves capturing stakeholders’ needs, modeling, writing, decomposing, tracking and reviewing requirements, and the verification and validation involved in this process.

For Air Major Valter Borges Malta, Vice Chief of EMAER, “the event was an excellent example of using internal COMAER competencies to increase the knowledge level of those who deal daily with our aerospace systems projects”.

Air Brigadier Leonardo Chaves Rodrigues, Chief of the EMAER’s Seventh Subchief, highlighted the importance of the first edition of the course. “The positive feedback from the audience reinforces the importance of the theme and encourages us to continue this initiative, which will certainly generate a multiplying effect of this knowledge within the Force,” he said.

For Airman Colonel Daniel Lames de Araujo, coordinator and student of the course, “the example of partnership between EMAER and the academy, represented by ITA, shows the importance of strengthening these ties for the training of the Officers responsible for high-level advice in the Force”.

The closing ceremony was marked by the delivery of ITA certificates to the course concluders. Besides the Chief and Deputy Chief of EMAER’s Seventh Sub-Chief, Air Brigadier Eduardo Miguel Soares, Chief of EMAER’s Sixth Sub-Chief, and Air Brigadier Renato Alves de Moraes, Chief of EMAER’s Third Sub-Chief, also attended the event.
