EDGE Group unit Milrem Robotics will equip the UAE Armed Forces with 60 units of tracked RCVs and THeMIS UGVs.

(DEFESANet) Milrem Robotics, a unit of EDGE Group, Europe’s leading developer of robotics and autonomous systems, has signed a contract to supply 20 tracked robotic combat vehicles (RCVs) and 40 THeMIS unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of Defense. The deal, which represents the largest combat robotics program in the world, was announced at the Unmanned Systems Exhibition & Conference (UMEX 2023), which is being held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) until January 24.

Milrem Robotics will conduct an experimentation and testing program with the aim of integrating unmanned ground assets into the arsenal of the UAE Armed Forces. This initiative is a significant step towards enhancing the Armed Forces’ combat capabilities through the deployment of THeMIS UGVs and tracked RCVs, both equipped with advanced autonomy features, third-party payloads and high-quality communication solutions.

Kuldar Väärsi, CEO of Milrem Robotics, said: “EDGE Group’s investment in Milrem Robotics has opened up new avenues for us in the region, further expanding our international growth and market presence. The start of the world’s largest combat robotics program with the UAE Ministry of Defense not only demonstrates the competitive advantage of our solutions, but also highlights the strategic value of incorporating advanced robotic systems into the force structure, thereby enhancing its combat capabilities and operational efficiency.”

The contract includes the supply of tracked RCVs with MK44 30 mm cannons, THeMIS combat units equipped with M230LF 30 mm remote weapon stations and indirect fire systems, and THeMIS observation units with radar and camera systems, including shot detection capabilities. Milrem Robotics will also provide comprehensive training and supervision to ensure that relevant personnel reach a satisfactory skill level in the operation of combat unmanned ground systems.

UMEX attendees can visit EDGE and its portfolio of companies in Hall 5, Booth A-18 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center (ADNEC) until January 24, 2024.
