Campo Grande (MS) – The Brazilian Army, in joint and integrated action with the other Armed Forces and government agencies, contributed to the seizure of more than R$118 million in drugs, smuggled goods, vehicles and equipment in the border areas of the states of Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul and Paraná. This was the tenth week of Operation Ágata Fronteira Oeste II, which has already accounted for more than 3,000 actions and brings together the permanent efforts of the Western Operational Command of the Western Military Command (CMO) and public security and inspection agencies. The operation will continue until May 2024.

Since the start of the operation, 19,391 kg of drugs, 146,819 packs of cigarettes and 65,524,000 contraband products have been seized. All of this corresponds to around R$71 million in narcotics; more than R$41 million in contraband, smuggled goods, seized equipment, vehicles, boats and aircraft; and more than R$5 million in cigarettes and other illegal goods, totaling R$118 million in damage to organized crime. Throughout the operation, a hotline service was available on 0800 358 0007. The calls are free of charge for citizens and operate uninterruptedly, respecting the anonymity of whistleblowers.

Joint effort

Operation Ágata Fronteira Oeste II is a joint effort between the Armed Forces, the Federal Police, the Federal Revenue Service, the Federal Highway Police, the Brazilian Intelligence Agency, the National Secretariat for Penal Policies, the Secretariats of Public Security, the Civil Police, the Military Police and the Integrated Border and Border Management Offices of the three states.

The Army units that took part in the action are consolidated in the Western Operational Command, whose main missions are to intensify actions at Road and River Block Posts, Mechanized and Motorized Patrols and Static Security Posts. The work is carried out by the 13th Motorized Infantry Brigade, the 18th Pantanal Infantry Brigade, the 4th Mechanized Cavalry Brigade and the 15th Mechanized Infantry Brigade.
