Weapons with 100% Brazilian technology deployed to Roraima

Brasília (DF) – The Brazilian Army is carrying out a strategic deployment of military equipment to Roraima. This operation includes dozens of 1.2 Anti-tank Surface-to-Surface Missiles (MSS 1.2 AC). The purpose of transferring the materials is to incorporate resources into the 18th Mechanized Cavalry Regiment, the newest unit of the Amazon Military Command.

Operation Roraima, planned and conducted by the 9th Logistics Group, under the coordination of the Logistics Command (COLOG) and the Western Military Command (CMO), involves the strategic deployment of a mechanized cavalry squadron from the 4th Mechanized Cavalry Brigade to Boa Vista (RR). In all, three marching units containing military assets left Campo Grande (MS) for Roraima. The first marching unit of the Guaicurus Logistics Detachment, made up of 50 soldiers and 32 vehicles, including 14 Guaicurus Multitask Armored Vehicles, began its movement from the facilities of the 20th Armored Cavalry Regiment in Campo Grande, where they were ready.

The logistics convoy arrived in Porto Velho (RO) after covering more than 2,100 kilometers, from where it made its way by river from the Amazon Military Command’s Boat Center (CECMA) to Roraima.

100% Brazilian technology

The MSS 1.2 AC underwent an evaluation by the Army Evaluation Center (CAEx) in August 2023. The event was attended by engineers and technicians from the company SIATT Engenharia, Industria e Comércio LTDA, military personnel from the Army Technology Center (CTEx), responsible for developing the missile, military personnel from CAEx, as well as representatives from the Brazilian Navy.

The importance of the launch in evaluating the missile demonstrated the quality of the work carried out by the Army’s Science, Technology and Innovation System (SCTIEx) in conjunction with the Defense and Security Industrial Base (BIDS), with the aim of delivering a modern and accurate MEM to the Defense. The technology used is 100% national.

MSS 1.2 AC Weapon System

The MSS 1.2 AC is a medium-range anti-tank surface-to-surface missile, developed according to the requirements of the Brazilian Army. The system consists of the Munition (missile in its launcher container) and the Firing Unit. It employs beam-rider type guidance, in which the operator is responsible for optically pointing it at the target. During the missile’s flight, the Shooting Unit emits a coded invisible laser beam, harmonized with the optical sight, which provides the guidance reference for the missile.

The system is capable of piercing armor up to 500 millimeters thick in NATO-standard steel plate. The MSS 1.2 AC missile neutralizes threats at up to 4,000 metres and is mainly used against armoured vehicles.

In addition, it can be used secondarily against other rewarding targets, such as: concentrations of vehicles, fortified buildings, fuel and/or ammunition depots, river boats and helicopters hovering at low altitude.
