Campo Grande (MS) – The Western Military Command has completed four months of constant action in Operation Ágata Fronteira Oeste II. This week, the Army Commander, General Tomás, came to Mato Grosso and accompanied some of the activities carried out by the military and members of federal and state public security agencies, institutions and bodies.

Combating cross-border crime is the focus of actions in this region of the country, an area of more than 2,400 km of border, monitored by almost 2,000 military personnel spread across three states. So much work has already resulted in more than R$200 million in losses to organized crime, totaled in seizures of drugs, contraband, weapons and other illicit items.

On the first day of his visit, March 5, the Army Commander took part in an operational training session at the JAURU Border Command/66th Motorized Infantry Battalion and followed the results of a seizure of more than 144 kg of narcotics in the region of Porto Esperidião (MT). The action involved the Brazilian Army, the Special Border Group (GEFRON) and various security forces.

The following day, the 44th Motorized Infantry Battalion received General Tomás to demonstrate the operation of the troops and their work in the region. During all the activities, the Commander was accompanied by the Western Military Commander, Army General Luiz Fernando Estorilho Baganha.

Army operation seized 2 tons of drugs on the border with Bolivia

Operation Ágata Fronteira Oeste II has already seized 35 tons of marijuana, 2.5 tons of cocaine and other drugs. The Brazilian Army has been carrying out surveillance work since November 2023 in the border areas of the states of Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul and Paraná with Bolivia and Paraguay, a total of 5,015 km of land and water borders.
