Centauro II – Brazilian Army issues an informative note
THE OFFICIAL WORD OF THE ARMY – INFORMEX NR 046 -OF DECEMBER 06, 2022
DISTRIBUTION: ALL THE MILITARY ORGANIZATIONS DISSEMINATION: ALL THE MILITARY
SUBJECT: ACQUISITION OF THE NEW ARMORED CAR OF THE ARMY – CENTAUR II 8X8
The Commander of the Army entrusted me to inform the Force that the Brazilian Army has invested resources from its budget in the development and modernization of its military employment materials (MEM), in order to be in conditions to fulfill the missions imposed by the Brazilian Constitution.
In this context, the acquisition of the CENTAURO II 8×8 vehicle is intended to substitute part of the EE9 (Cascavel) armored vehicle fleet, which has reached the end of its useful life after four decades of exhaustive use.
The purchase is justified in order to meet the evident need for technological update of this type of material; to provide our soldiers with the necessary security during training and operations; and to allow the Land Force to perform its tasks with adequate conditions for what it proposes.
Besides this, the process, composed of several stages, will contribute, internally, to the strengthening of the Defense Industrial Base (BID), with the creation of new jobs and the effective participation of national companies in the production of the vehicle in national territory. Contrary to what has been mistakenly announced by some sectors, the procurement process has been conducted for years, involving technical studies, market surveys, and strategic analyses, with the objective of identifying the best possible proposal that meets the criteria established by the Army.
The signing of the initial contract, which was scheduled for December 5, 2022, contemplates the delivery of only two samples of the Centaur II 8×8 armored vehicle, which will be tested by the Army Evaluation Center (CAEx).
Only after the approval of these prototypes, the main contract will be signed, aiming to obtain a total of 98 vehicles over 5 years, according to the budget availability of the Land Force, totaling an estimated investment of R$ 3.3 billion.
