Rio de Janeiro (RJ) – From July 10 to 14, EME/COTER/CML conducted the “Subject Matter Experts Exchange/CBRN – SMEE” (CBRN Experts Exchange with the New York National Guard and the US Army), at Fort Copacabana, RJ.
The activity, coordinated by the Land Operations Command (COTER), had the support of the CML, the 1st Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense Battalion (1st Btl DQBRN*) and the Copacabana Fort for its realization, had as main objective the exchange of experiences between the Armies of the two countries, on doctrine, CBRN response, support to Civil Defense, CBRN defense health support, teaching / instruction, equipment, techniques and procedures.
During the exchange, lectures were given by the OMs that make up SisDQBRNEx (EME, COTER, 1º Btl DQBRN, IDQBRN, IME, IBEx) as well as invited organizations (Brazilian Air Force, Military Fire Brigade of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Institute of Radioprotection and Dosimetry, Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (FioCruz)); and by the US Army and New York National Guard on response, coordination and coping capabilities for disasters, intentional or not, CBRN defense.
A Table Top Exercise was held with CBRN defense disaster scenarios, where participants were able to hold discussions on crisis management and incident response to exchange information and present lessons learned by both countries.
At the end of the event, there was a demonstration of the 1st Btl DQBRN’s use together with the Military Firefighters of RJ, followed by an exhibition of CBRN defense material, where the military of the Friendly Nation could see the excellence of the Brazilian Army’s CBRN defense capacity in protecting Brazilian society.
*CBRN defense in portuguese, the acronym used by the brazilian army is DQBRN (Defesa Química, Biológica, Radiológica e Nuclear)
