Brasília (DF) – Ten people linked to illegal mining surrendered after an interagency action of Operation Ágata Fronteira Norte, with the participation of the Brazilian Army in the Homoxi region, in the Yanomami Indigenous Land (TIY). The detainees were transported to Boa Vista Air Base (BABV) in two C-98 (Caravan) aircraft and taken to the Federal Police headquarters in Boa Vista (RR).

On Sunday, 23, at around 12:00, after an action carried out in the Homoxi area, four people surrendered. On Monday, 24, around 10am, another six people went to the base of Operation Homoxi and surrendered. The detainees also informed that, after the last action of the Armed Forces, there were no active mining sites left in the region.

Operation Ágata Northern Border

Operation Ágata Fronteira Norte is a coordinated effort between the Armed Forces, agencies, and public security bodies, in accordance with Decree No. 11,405 of January 30, 2023, amended by Decree No. 11,575 of June 21, 2023. Since the beginning of this year, the Armed Forces have supported and carried out the arrest and transportation of 87 illegal miners from TIY to Boa Vista.
