Fort Moore (Georgia, USA) – An Army sergeant took the Basic Parachutist and Jump Master courses at one of the US Army’s most prestigious military schools, the Airborne School. Staff Sergeant Júlio Webert Brune do Rosário represented the Brazilian Army and completed the Jump Master Course with honors.

Of the 480 soldiers who started the Basic Parachute Course, only 383 managed to complete it. They received badges, certificates and became US Army paratroopers. Among them, two foreigners took part in the training, a Brazilian sergeant and another sergeant from Moldova. The course lasted three weeks, divided into ground week, tower week and jump week.

In Ground Week, the students learned the techniques for leaving the aircraft and landing on the ground. In Tower Week, practical instruction is given aimed at acquiring the reflexes necessary for the safety of all aeroterrestrial procedures. During Jump Week, all the knowledge was applied in practice, with a focus on leadership, self-confidence and aggressive spirit. In all, five semi-automatic jumps were made from C-130 Hercules and C-17 Globemaster aircraft. On completion of the course, soldiers are qualified to use parachutes in combat infiltration.

After completing the Basic Course, the Brazilian sergeant took the Jumpmaster Course. This course trains soldiers to launch personnel and material from aircraft in flight. The jumpmaster also inspects paratroopers, aircraft and loads deployed in air-land operations. They also train new paratroopers.

Of the 50 soldiers who started the Jump Master Course, only 19 were able to complete it. Staff Sergeant Webert won first place overall in the course and graduated with Distinguished Honor Graduate.

The Brazilian currently serves at the Parachute Instruction Centre, where he uses the knowledge acquired at the Airborne School to train new airmen and to improve the teaching and specialization processes of the paratroopers.
