On Tuesday (6), during the 7th BID Brazil Exhibition, in Brasília, the Brazilian Navy (MB), through the Navy’s Directorate-General of Nuclear and Technological Development (DGDNTM), and Embraer advanced in this sphere by signing the Technical Cooperation Agreement (ACT) for Research, Development, and Innovation aiming at the study and analysis of Radar and Interferometer Systems for use in operations (Electronic Countermeasures – CME), representing an important strategic milestone in the field of national Defense and Technology.

The nationalization of equipment for naval and Marine means is one of the main tasks of the Science, Technology and Innovation Sector of the Brazilian Navy. Working for the development of independent technologies for Defense products and cooperating to strengthen the Defense Industrial Base (BID) is one of the priorities.

“Both institutions have recognized competencies and projects in the areas of the agreement and will collaboratively study sustainable national solutions that meet their respective demands, guided by the search for development in favor of obtaining knowledge, goods and services in science, technology and innovation, in an autochthonous way,” said Fleet Admiral Petronio Augusto Siqueira de Aguiar, Director-General of Nuclear and Technological Development of the Navy.

The agreement between the two institutions contributes to the National Defense Strategy, especially with regard to national technological development, and aims to identify the degree of technological and industrial maturity of radar systems.

The ACT in question has the objective of analyzing, from the technical and operational points of view, the current levels of technological maturity of the radar systems developed by the participants, with the purpose of seeking their evolution and future production of such equipment, which represents the increase of the operational capacity of the Naval Force with high national technological content.

The strengthening of the Defense Industrial Base

The studies that will be carried out jointly, between the BID and the Scientific and Technological Institutions (ICT) of the MB, will analyze the levels of development of the mentioned systems, as well as the possibility of their integrated operations with Combat Systems or Command and Control Systems. Thus, the initiative is considered strategic for the defense area in the country, because it represents an opportunity to take advantage of the knowledge already acquired in previous projects and to contribute to the prospection and promotion of national industry.
