The Brazilian Defense Minister, José Mucio Monteiro Filho, accompanied by congressmen and other civilian and military authorities, visited the Anápolis Air Base (Base Aérea de Anápolis – BAAN) on Tuesday (June 13). The objective was to strengthen the relations between the Executive and Legislative Branches. When approaching Anápolis, the C-99 aircraft, which transported the delegation from Brasilia (DF), was escorted by an F-39 Gripen fighter jet.

The Commander of the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), Lieutenant Brigadier Marcelo Kanitz Damasceno, received the committee and presented the facilities of the base, along with the Commander of BAAN, Aviator Colonel Renato Leal Leite.

“We are proud to be Brazilians seeing the work of the Armed Forces. The work of the Air Force is spectacular. The way everything is conducted here is incredible. I appreciate the presence of the parliamentarians and the reception of our Commander, Lieutenant Brigadier Damasceno, and the Base Commander, Colonel Leite,” said Minister José Mucio.

The delegation had the opportunity to get a close look at some of the FAB aircraft and learn about their duties. At the First Air Defense Group (1st GDA) – Jaguar Squadron, the visitors saw the simulator and the Gripen flight line. At the First Troop Transport Group (1st GTT) – Zeus Squadron and at the Second Squadron of the Sixth Aviation Group (2nd/6th GAV) – Guardian Squadron, the KC-390 Millennium and E-99 aircraft were presented.

“Anápolis Air Base is one of the most strategic bases in the country, since it gathers multidisciplinary activities of the Air Force in what concerns our operationality: Fighter Aviation, Transport Aviation, and our important and strategic Reconnaissance Aviation. We had the opportunity to show the real action of our Air Defense, highlighting the importance of this unique activity and presenting a little bit of our integrated Air Traffic Control and Defense system, a source of pride for all of us from the Brazilian Air Force,” said Lieutenant Brigadier Damasceno.

The BAAN Commander considered the visit extremely important. “We had the opportunity to show a little bit of our work to the minister and the parliamentarians present. We are sure that they will leave here with a good impression knowing that we are here to accomplish the mission!”, concluded Colonel Leite.
