Rio de Janeiro (RJ) – Military personnel who will be part of United Nations missions took the Environmental Management in Peace Operations Course from August 28 to September 8. The future blue helmets received instructions related to environmental awareness and preservation, and their environmental duties in multidimensional missions. Cases involving natural disasters and catastrophes were emphasized.

The course was conducted remotely, in English, by the Brazilian Joint Peace Operations Center (CCOPAB). A total of 19 students from nine Latin American countries were trained. The training team was made up of 16 instructors of eight nationalities.

The training was carried out within the framework of the Latin American Association of Peace Operations Training Centers. In November 2022, Brazil took over the pro tempore presidency of the Association, with CCOPAB acting as the secretariat of the Latin American body. One of the goals set during the Brazilian presidency was the creation of this course, focused on environmental management in peace operations.
