Ukrainian bombing in Russia leaves dead and wounded in BelgorodUkrainian bombing in Russia leaves dead and wounded in Belgorod

(AFP) Two people have been killed and two others injured in a Ukrainian bombardment in Russia’s Belgorod region on the border with Ukraine, according to the local governor on Friday (2).

Earlier, Russia had reportedly prevented a new Ukrainian attack on its territory. The towns of Lomakovka and Novaya Pogoshch, in the western Briansk region, were also bombed. According to the governor of the region, Alexander Bogomaz, in messages posted on Telegram, the attack left no victims.

In Belgorod, meanwhile, also in the west of the country, two people were killed. “The shrapnel hit passing cars. In one of them, two women died from their injuries,” Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said. “In a second car, there were two injured. One man by shrapnel in the chest and a second who was injured by shrapnel in the lower limbs,” he reported, adding that the victims were hospitalized in serious condition.

Gladkov also said that the shots hit a road in the village of Maslova Pristan, located a few kilometers from the Ukrainian border town of Chebekino.

Attacks in Russia multiply

According to the Kremlin, attacks against Russian territory have increased in recent days. On Thursday (1), Russia denounced an attempt by Ukrainian troops to cross the border, in the Belgorod region.

Ukraine denies that its Army is involved in the incursions into the neighboring country and claims that they are carried out by Russian fighters opposed to the regime of President Vladimir Putin.

In Smolensk, in western Russia and near the border with Belarus, two long-range drones struck a fuel and power infrastructure overnight Thursday into Friday, but without causing fire or leaving any injuries, the region’s governor said.

On Friday, Ukrainian authorities revoked warnings of air strikes in most of the country. Kiev said anti-aircraft defense systems shot down more than 30 missiles and drones sent by Russia this morning alone.
