At Campo Grande Air Base (BACG), the H-36 Caracal helicopter, one of the Brazilian Air Force’s (FAB) aircraft, proved its ability to face complex challenges by taking part in various missions during Joint Exercise (EXCON) Tápio 2023.

The H-36 Caracal plays a key role in operations such as the rescue and recovery of military personnel in risky situations, acting with precision in challenging environments. In addition, it actively participates in the transportation of troops and cargo, providing essential support for teams on the ground.

The pilot of the H-36 Caracal of the Third Squadron of the Eighth Aviation Group (3º/8º GAV) – Puma Squadron, Lieutenant Claudio Alves de Oliveira Junior, emphasizes the importance of the helicopter in these operations. “It is a fundamental part of the success of the missions that take place here in Exercise Tápio 2023. Its transport, rescue and logistical support capabilities ensure that we can carry out our actions efficiently and safely,” he said.

The presence of the H-36 Caracal is also essential for reinforcing the integration of the Brazilian Armed Forces and the importance of interoperability in achieving strategic objectives. Its performance in the Exercise not only demonstrates the aircraft’s advanced technology and operational efficiency, but also highlights the teams’ ability to face challenging scenarios with confidence and professionalism.

H-36 Caracal

The H-36 Caracal, which can carry up to 27 passengers or 11 stretchers in its medical configuration, is known for its adaptability in different operational scenarios. Its spacious cabin can accommodate a variety of cargo, from equipment to medical supplies. This flexibility allows the helicopter to be used in a wide range of missions, including Aeromedical Evacuations, rescue in remote areas and troop deployment in conflict zones.

Equipped with advanced navigation, communication and protection systems, the aircraft is capable of operating in challenging environments, providing crews with greater safety and efficiency. Its engines and sophisticated rotor system enable long-distance flights, high operating speeds and the possibility of taking off and landing in different weather conditions and locations. In addition, the helicopter is capable of night operations and has the capacity to use integrated weapons systems, increasing its effectiveness in tactical support missions.

In the FAB, the Third Squadron of the Eighth Aviation Group (3º/8º GAV) – Puma Squadron, located in Santa Cruz (RJ) and the First Squadron of the Eighth Aviation Group (1º/8º GAV) – Falcão Squadron, operate the H-36 Caracal aircraft. They have taken part in several real-life missions, such as those that took place in Brumadinho and, more recently, in helping to rescue the crew of the EC-120 aircraft that disappeared in Amapá (AP).
