The solution, in partnership with OHI Unmanned, OHI’s drone division, helps reduce the carbon footprint of critical cargo.

March 04, 2024, Rio de Janeiro – Omni Táxi Aéreo, part of the Omni Helicopters International Group (OHI), Latin America’s leading provider of air mobility solutions, announces that it has won two contracts from Petrobras to operate unmanned aerial vehicles (“UAVs”) on offshore missions. The missions will carry out beyond-line-of-sight (“BVLOS”) flights, transporting 50 kg loads to offshore installations and conducting flights between installations. These will be the first UAV missions of this type in Brazil.

The contracts awarded by Petrobras, Brazil’s leading energy company, were signed with Omni Taxi Aéreo with consultancy support from OHI Unmanned, OHI’s drone division. In addition to cargo transportation, the mission will collect data on airspace sharing between UAVs and helicopters, representing a crucial step in the development of unmanned aerial logistics.

OHI is at the forefront of sustainable solutions that support the orderly transition of energy – this project has the potential to significantly reduce costs and CO2 emissions for smaller, urgent loads, replacing the use of conventional helicopters and boats.

Roberto Coimbra, CEO of Omni Táxi Aéreo, comments: “Our almost 20-year relationship with Petrobras has been based on innovation and we are delighted that they have chosen us for this journey.”

João Welsh, CEO of OHI Unmanned, adds: “We are very pleased to be collaborating with Petrobras. With innovation and cutting-edge technology, we can seamlessly integrate unmanned vehicles into critical missions, offering an excellent service to customers and contributing to sustainable results.”

The first operational flights are scheduled for the second quarter of 2024.
