Macapá (AP) – The Amapá Border Command and the 34th Jungle Infantry Battalion, together with the French Guiana Army and public security agencies, carried out Operation Jararaca with the aim of combating cross-border crimes, illegal mining and environmental crimes. The actions are part of Operation Ágata carried out by the Northern Military Command.

During the operation, land and river patrols were carried out, as well as roadblocks and river control posts, with the aim of combating and deterring cross-border and environmental crimes. The military managed to dismantle groups operating in illegal mining, seizing more than a thousand rounds of ammunition, weapons, narcotics and cash. The patrols also found a dead jaguar, the product of an environmental crime.

Operation Ágata works to protect borders throughout the country. In March, Operation Gran Rochelle was carried out, also in partnership with French Guiana. Various actions are also being carried out on the western border.

The operation mobilized more than 300 soldiers from the Brazilian Army, the Federal Police, the Federal Highway Police and the Brazilian Navy.
