A training course so that military personnel can be absolutely sure that they will be rescued by their peers when necessary, even in a conflict area. That was the end of the Rescue phase of Joint Exercise (EXCON) Tápio 2023. The second stage of the training put the soldiers’ knowledge to the test in a simulated hostile area.

In this activity, the mission is clear: to recover soldiers facing real dangers and bring them back to the safety of the base. This phase is activated when military personnel are in risky situations, either because they have been wounded, captured or are in other dangerous circumstances. The quick and efficient rescue of these soldiers becomes a priority.

The Head of the Scenario Cell at EXCON Tápio, Captain Diego Luís Marques Vieira, emphasizes the crucial importance of rescue operations. According to him, this stage is a clear demonstration of the Armed Forces’ dedication to ensuring the life and integrity of combatants, even in challenging circumstances. “The precision and determination with which the operations were conducted reflect the rigorous training and readiness of the teams involved,” he says.

In this exercise, rescue operations were carried out with the utmost caution and agility, ensuring that each serviceman in a dangerous situation was rescued safely and efficiently. The phase not only demonstrated the Armed Forces’ ability to respond in adverse scenarios, but also reinforced the importance of interoperability and precise coordination for successful missions. Both theoretical and practical training was attended by military personnel from the Brazilian Navy, the Brazilian Army and the Brazilian Air Force (FAB).

Post-rescue

The FAB’s Field Hospital (HCAMP) took part in the rescue phase, acting as a vital part of the rescue and Tactical Pre-Hospital Care (APH-T) actions. After the rescue, the SAR teams carry out all the stabilization manoeuvres and take the injured soldier to HCAMP, where he receives all the necessary care.

According to HCAMP’s commander for the exercise, Medical Major Juliana Freire Vandesteen, the rescue training operations further reinforce HCAMP’s agile and efficient response in real situations. “This makes vital medical care even more effective, which reinforces the importance of the readiness and response capacity of the Armed Forces in challenging scenarios,” she concludes.
