The Parachute Infantry Brigade (Bda Inf Pqdt) carried out, from June 16 to 23, 2023, in several locations in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Operation Horus, an exercise that is part of the brigade’s Basic Training Program (PAB). The purpose of the activity was to train the battalion’s task forces for use in urban operations. In all, 1991 soldiers were involved, 1477 of the combat troops and 514 of the support troops.
The Commander of the Parachute Infantry Brigade, Brigadier General Adriano Fructuoso da Costa, issued the orders to the commanders of the airborne organizations, in the Tactical Operations Center (TOC) of the Bda Inf Pqdt.
Afterwards, the parachute units made their operational readiness and proceeded to the workshops. In the first stage, the paratroopers participated in thematic workshops about the actions developed in urban operations, such as riot control operations, area interdiction and repossession operations, search and seizure operations, and motorized patrols. In the second phase, the occupation of strategic structures, which are important areas within the social context of a given locality, took place in order to defend them against occupation by adverse forces.
To crown Operation Horus, the Commander of the Bda Inf Pqdt, General Fructuoso, ordered the execution of Operation Lightning, which was carried out by the Task Force of the 25th Parachute Infantry Battalion (25º BI Pqdt). Thus, the armed and equipped paratroopers were launched during a night flight at the Itaguaí Grande Launching Zone, and an investment was made.
At the end of the exercise, the 21st Parachute Antiaircraft Artillery Battery (21st Bia AAAe Pqdt) coordinated, on Friday (23rd), a civic-social action (ACISO) for the population living in the Campo Lindo neighborhood, located in Seropédica. The residents of the region were offered medical and dental appointments, an exhibition of military equipment, lectures on preserving the environment and on how to enter the military, the issuing of documents, haircuts, and recreational activities for children. The population also participated in a performance by the Parachute Infantry Brigade Band.
