Nioaque (MS) – In September 2023, the Parachute Artillery took part in Operation Frontier/2023 in the Pantanal of Mato Grosso do Sul. The operation consisted of a Pantanal Adaptation Internship and an Artillery Exercise at the Betione Training Camp, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul.
The Pantanal Adaptation Internship was conducted by the 9th Field Artillery Group, based in Nioaque, and the 20th Armored Cavalry Regiment, based in Campo Grande (MS). The aim of the internship is to enable paratrooper artillerymen to operate in the Pantanal environment, adapting them to the particular characteristics of the biome and to the conditions of combat and survival in the region.
As for the Artillery Exercise, the 1st Parachute Howitzer Battery trained its subsystems at the Betione Training Camp. Soldiers from the professional staff and the variable staff carried out live firing with artillery pieces as part of the training for support in a paratrooper task force. The exercise involved operations to conquer and maintain an air bridgehead in a marshland environment.
