Amazon Joint Operational Command divulges balance of 60 days of operation

Amazon Joint Operational Command – Air Force Agency – Airman Colonel Pinheiro

Completed 60 days since its activation by the Ministry of Defense (MD), the Amazon Joint Operational Command (Cmdo Op Cj Amz) has delivered 350 thousand kilos of food in the Yanomami region. This was one of the expressive data released by Cmdo Op Cj Amz, on Monday (03/04), after closing the balance of actions of the Operation commanded by Air Major Brigadier Raimundo Nogueira Lopes Neto.

“The results are very significant, because the numbers translate the dedication, commitment and engagement of all the military personnel from the Brazilian Navy (MB), the Brazilian Army (EB) and the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) involved in the mission; efforts that are converted into humanitarian aid to this especially vulnerable part of the population at this moment. So far, about 20,000 food baskets have been delivered throughout the Yanomami Territory, serving more than 40 villages. In order to accomplish this, more than 2500 flight hours have been used, which is an expressive mark for the Armed Forces, in such a short period of time,” said Air Major Brigadier Nogueira.

The Joint Operation Commander also added. “Another front to be emphasized is the Yanomami indigenous health. The work done by the FAB military in the Field Hospital (HCAMP) was able to control the delicate scenario experienced by the indigenous population, drastically reducing the need for care each day, culminating, in the last week, with an average of two consultations a day.

According to this week’s balance sheet, regarding indigenous health, the Cmdo OP Cj Amz counts 1,903 consultations at the HCAMP and 201 transported indigenous people. Another important fact regarding transport is the support given to the Yanomami Emergency Operation Center (COE). There have been more than 8 thousand loads (counted as of March 7) and 540 people transported in military vehicles.

Although the Surucucu airfield is private, and the responsibility of the National Foundation of Indigenous Peoples (FUNAI), another extremely relevant task was the emergency repair of the runway, carried out by the 6th Engineering and Construction Battalion (6th BEC) of the Brazilian Army, which made it possible, since the first days of March, for the C-105 Amazonas aircraft to take off and land. This aircraft can carry up to 64 passengers or 5 tons of cargo, as well as the C-98 Caravan, another aircraft used in the mission.

The objective of the Joint Operation, which involves more than 580 military personnel from the Armed Forces, is to reinforce the actions to confront Public Health Emergencies of National Importance and to combat illegal mining in the Yanomami Territory, in Boa Vista (RR).

“I think it is important to emphasize that in order to maintain the consistency of actions in this complex operation, the synergy among the three Forces – Navy, Army, and Air Force – is essential. The results obtained are the fruit of interoperability, which made possible the regularity of the efforts applied over 60 days,” commented the subcommander of the Operation, Brigadier General Marcelo Lorenzini Zucco.
