(DEFESA Net) Lula’s problem isn’t that he lies – to himself, at least, it’s obviously not. The president, from his first day in politics, made a bet that worked: the way that works best for him to succeed in this kind of life is to never tell the truth about anything, every time there is the possibility of lying.
He’s been doing this for 40 years, and in that time he’s been president of the Republic three times, convinced much of the world that he’s a champion of the poor and left jail, where he was serving time for passive corruption and money laundering, with the reputation of a martyr.
The president’s mental circuits no longer register rational perceptions – all that exists in his head is what he says to himself.
The problem is that Brazil now has a president who has left rational life to sink into a permanent psychiatric disorder. He no longer reacts to logical argument. He has closed himself off in a world that makes no sense and in which delusions, hallucinations and nonsense have replaced reality.
In his latest outburst, Lula denied that he had equated the Nazi Holocaust, in which 6 million people were exterminated in gas chambers, with Israel’s current military campaign in reaction to “Palestinian” terrorism.
But how can that be, if he did exactly that, and is proud of it? Lula said the following in public, letter by letter: “What is happening in the Gaza Strip and with the Palestinian people does not exist at any other time in history. In fact, it did exist: when Hitler had the Jews killed.”
The slaughter to which Lula refers is exactly the Holocaust; even a primary school child knows that. But since he didn’t think to use the word “Holocaust” in his accusation – he just used “Hitler” and “Jews” – he suddenly decided to say that the Israeli government’s “interpretation” of his words “is intellectually dishonest”. Then it’s no longer a lie, or cynicism. Now it’s psychosis.
The president’s mental circuits no longer register rational perceptions – all that exists in his head is what he tells himself and the rest of humanity that exists. Lula lives surrounded, day and night, by the largest and most opaque string of henchmen ever formed in Brazil’s political history. In other words: the possibility of anyone saying anything to him is between absolute zero and the integral of zero.
Many people who live within this clique, of course, have already understood that Lula won’t be there forever. They are more or less discreetly taking care of their own. Meanwhile, fuck Brazil.
