The Management and Operational Center of the Amazon Protection System (CENSIPAM), an agency of the Ministry of Defense, has expanded the capacity to use the “Fire Panel” tool to all Amazon countries. The novelty was presented during the 3rd “Fire Panel” Seminar, held on Wednesday (19), with the presence of the Minister of Defense, José Mucio Monteiro Filho, in Brasilia. The “Fire Panel” tool, which already assists specialized teams in detecting and fighting forest fires in Brazil, now also covers the countries of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO); composed of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Suriname and Venezuela.
According to the Minister of Defense, the assertiveness and practicality of the tool was the reason that generated a technical agreement with OTCA, “All this is the result of a constant search for an increasingly agile monitoring service, implemented through a public, open tool, capable of demonstrating, the situation of fires in almost real time, monitoring fire events over the days and relating their priority to combat.”; he said.
The Fire Panel allows, in close to real time, the monitoring of isolated fire outbreaks up to fires, from the identification of the grouping and evolution of hotspots. The system combines geospatial information, satellite images and data from a severity level indicator. It can be used free of charge through the website: Panorama – Interactive Maps (sipam.gov.br).
Seminar – Promoted until tomorrow (20), the event reinforces the support of the Defense to the agencies related to the fight against fire to face the period of fires foreseen for this year. The event program includes the launch of updates and new products available in the 2023 version of the Fire Panel; discussion and training on the operational use of the tool; and debates with the scientific community on research carried out and in progress.
