Embraer inaugurated, on Thursday (June 15), its first flight simulator (Full-Flight Simulator – FFS) for the KC-390 Millennium multi-mission jetliner. The inauguration ceremony took place at the Embraer Academy, at the Eugênio de Mello unit, located in São José dos Campos (SP), and was attended by military personnel from the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) and the Portuguese Air Force (FAP), as well as representatives of Rheinmetall, the simulator manufacturer based in Germany.

From the FAB, the event was attended by the Air Force Preparations Commander, Lieutenant Brigadier Sergio Roberto de Almeida; the Air Force Support Commander, Lieutenant Brigadier Pedro Luís Farcic; the Director-General of the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology, Lieutenant Brigadier Maurício Augusto Silveira de Medeiros; and other General Officers.

According to the Preparations Commander, the existence of an aircraft simulator is a significant differential, since it represents an operational, safety, and economic gain. “The equipment allows us to train pilots in circumstances that we would not normally do or because they would be too expensive or too dangerous. Now we have the possibility to do several types of training in the same mission. In this way, the simulator completely changes the training of a pilot,” explained Air Lieutenant Brigadier Almeida.

“The new C-390 flight simulator will meet the demand from current and future customers for basic and advanced pilot training, thus contributing to the safe and effective operation of the aircraft,” added Embraer President & CEO, Johann Bordais.

The KC-390 flight simulator, with level D qualification, includes operation under normal and emergency conditions, a military operations support package, and has more than 350 simulated failures. In addition, the simulator is easy to maintain and comfortable to use for pilots in training.

According to Embraer, Brazil, Portugal and Hungary will be the first countries to use this equipment, which allows the safe practice of maneuvers and emergency procedures, as well as other adverse flight conditions, with reduced costs and without risks to the operation.

KC-390 Millennium

The KC-390 Millennium is the most modern new generation military tactical transport aircraft, and its multi-mission platform offers unmatched mobility, combining high productivity and flexibility of operation with low operating costs, which is an unbeatable combination.

Since entering service with FAB in 2019, the C-390 has proven its capability, reliability and performance. The current fleet of six aircraft, all in the aerial refueling version, called KC-390, has already accumulated more than 8,900 flight hours and recent figures show an operational availability of around 80%, with mission completion rate above 99%, demonstrating exceptional productivity in the category.
