“As the French Navy does not have a CLAnf, we performed, during the workshop phase, a combined familiarization where the capabilities of the vehicle, safety procedures, embarkation and disembarkation methods, and troop transfer in case of emergency at sea were presented.
Combined operations like this one aim to reinforce the interoperability of the armed forces involved, as the commander of NPaOc “Araguari”, Frigate Captain James Acâmpora Bessa Pinto, reminds us.
“The purpose of the Operation is to increase the training of the military and raise the level of interoperability between the Brazilian Navy and the French National Navy, with French military embarked in the NPaOc ‘Araguari’ and Brazilian military embarked in the PHA ‘Mistral’, contributing to the exchange of experiences and the exchange of procedures and knowledge.
The operation was open to the public and received students from the Colégio Cívico Militar Batalha do Riachuelo. It was the first time that many of them were able to follow closely an action like this, as was the case of the student João Pedro Fernandes de Alencar, 17 years old: “I was very proud to see the performance of the Brazilian Navy together with the French Navy, I wish that other people could also see how these operations work step by step”.
The combined exercise is important as a way to prepare for eventual joint employment. As the Commander of the PHA “Mistral”, Sea and War Captain Alexis Muller, said during a press conference held there. “it was the first time that Brazil’s CLAnf entered the PHA ‘Mistral’.

L’exercice combiné entre la marine brésilienne, la marine nationale française et l’armée française a réuni les autorités, la presse et le public pour assister à une situation tactique simulée, dans laquelle des troupes embarquées sur le porte-hélicoptères amphibie (PHA) “Mistral” et le patrouilleur océanique (NPaOc) “Araguari” ont effectué un débarquement afin d’évacuer et de mettre à l’abri des civils.
L’exercice a été marqué par l’action combinée des militaires des deux nations, avec notamment le débarquement des Français à bord des voitures amphibies Caterpillar (CLAnf) aux côtés des troupes brésiliennes. Pour cela, une préparation préalable était essentielle, comme l’a déclaré le capitaine de corvette (marine) Marcio Coelho Pires Filho.
“La Marine nationale ne disposant pas de CLAnf, nous avons effectué, pendant la phase d’atelier, une familiarisation combinée où ont été présentées les capacités du véhicule, les procédures de sécurité, les méthodes d’embarquement et de débarquement et le transfert de troupes en cas d’urgence en mer”.
Les opérations combinées comme celle-ci visent à renforcer l’interopérabilité des forces armées impliquées, comme l’a rappelé le commandant de la NPaOc “Araguari”, le capitaine de frégate James Acâmpora Bessa Pinto.
“Le but de l’opération est d’accroître la formation des militaires et d’élever le niveau d’interopérabilité entre la marine brésilienne et la marine nationale française, avec des militaires français embarqués sur le NPaOc ‘Araguari’ et des militaires brésiliens embarqués sur le PHA ‘Mistral’, contribuant ainsi à l’échange d’expériences et à l’échange de procédures et de connaissances.
L’opération était ouverte au public et a accueilli des étudiants du Colégio Cívico Militar Batalha do Riachuelo. C’était la première fois que beaucoup d’entre eux suivaient de près une action de ce type, comme c’était le cas de l’élève João Pedro Fernandes de Alencar, 17 ans : “J’étais très fier de voir la performance de la marine brésilienne avec la marine française, je souhaite que d’autres personnes puissent aussi voir comment ces opérations fonctionnent étape par étape”.
L’exercice combiné est important car il permet de se préparer à un éventuel emploi conjoint. Comme l’a déclaré le commandant du PHA “Mistral”, le capitaine de mer et de guerre Alexis Muller, lors d’une conférence de presse tenue sur place. “C’était la première fois que le CLAnf du Brésil participait au PHA ‘Mistral’.
Il s’agissait d’un défi technique et tactique, important en tant que forme de préparation à un éventuel emploi combiné entre les forces armées partout dans le monde”. L’opération Amphibious a commencé par une infiltration de troupes d’opérations spéciales sur la plage.
Cette opération a été suivie du débarquement des troupes par le CLAnf et de la mise en place et du fonctionnement d’une zone d’accueil. Pour que cela soit possible, depuis samedi dernier (28 mai), plusieurs ateliers et sessions de formation ont été organisés.
