Hamburg (Germany) – Three Brazilian officers have completed the International General Staff Course at the Führungsakademie der Bundeswehr, the renowned General Staff School of the German Armed Forces. In all, military students from 33 countries completed the course this year. Brazil was represented by Artillery Lieutenant Colonel George Koppe Eiriz, from the Brazilian Army, Aviator Lieutenant Colonel Fernando Lucas Soares Corrêa, from the Brazilian Air Force, and Frigate Captain João Langsch, from the Brazilian Navy.

The training is conducted entirely in German and lasts approximately one year. It is equivalent to the High Military Studies Course (CAEM) and its focus is on teaching and practicing the duties of a Major Command staff officer. To this end, the course emphasizes the decision-making process for solving military problems and planning in the General Staff. It also includes studies of geopolitics, military history, political science and international relations, with case studies and analysis of current world events and issues.

The activities provided Brazilian officers with comprehensive access to the doctrinal knowledge and practices of the German and NATO Armed Forces. The experience of immersion in a multinational environment also allowed for the exchange of experiences and the establishment of ties with military personnel from various friendly nations.
