According to the schedule for the Navy’s Submarine Program (PROSUB), Itaguaí Construções Navais (ICN) will be transferring the sections of the “Angostura” submarine (S-43), the program’s fourth conventional diesel-electric submarine, from the Steel Structures Fabrication Unit to the Construction Yard, located in the Itaguaí Naval Complex (CNI), in Rio de Janeiro, from April 19 to May 2.

The transfer operation of the sections will be carried out in three stages, until they are all at the Construction Shipyard for the final assembly of the submarine. The Ré section, the first one transferred, is responsible for housing the electric propulsion motor, as well as the vertical and horizontal rudder system, the propeller shaft and the propeller. The second section will be transferred at the end of April, and the last will be transferred in early May.

The arrival of the sections at the Shipyard marks the beginning of the final assembly of the “Angostura” submarine and ratifies the technical competence of the Brazilian industry in the construction of the “Riachuelo” class submarines. This operation, perfected since the transfer of the “Riachuelo” sections in 2017, requires detailed planning, from the adaptation of stretches of the power grid to selective interruptions of traffic on BR-493, carried out in coordination with several agencies to ensure safety and not cause damage to the urban mobility of the location.
