This Sunday (17th) is the Day of the Submariner and the Anniversary of the Submarine Force. The date goes back to the creation of the Submersible Flotilla, 108 years ago, just one week before the outbreak of the First World War.

This important branch of Naval Power has continued to develop and remains today at the forefront of national technology. “Being a submariner is a career that requires a lot of personal effort. The military is put to the test in the difficult submariner training courses, needs to get used to the confined environment, to the inherent risk and to possess a lot of emotional balance,” says the Commander of the Submarine Force, Rear-Admiral André Martins De Carvalho.
